We would LOVE a tour of the place! Fashion
We're excited to announce that William and Kate have moved into Kensington Palace, their first home together as a married couple!
Don't let the name fool you, though, their first place together will be a relatively modest apartment in the palace.
LONDON, ENGLAND, U.K. --
The Royal Couple now have a Royal London apartment!William and Kate — the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge — are setting up shop in London with their own apartment inside Kensington Palace in London, People reported.
The couple have been staying at Wills’ bachelor apartment at Clarence House, where Prince Harry, Prince Charles and Camilla also stay.
Their new home only has two bedrooms and will serve as a temporary residence until the time comes for them to accomplish “what they’ll be expected to do,” a Royal source told the mag, referring to entertaining and holding meetings.
The couple also stays near Prince William’s airbase in Anglesey, Wales.
“We can confirm that the couple’s official London residence will temporarily be a property at Kensington Palace. A number of longer term solutions are still being considered,” a St. James Palace spokesperson told Access Hollywood. “Their main home will still be their home in Anglesey. Household Office will continue to be based at St. James’s Palace.”
Wills and Kate will reportedly move into their new apartment in late June or early July after they return from their upcoming trip to Canada and California.
”[The apartment} hasn’t had any refurbishment for around 15 years, and it has been vacant for a little while,” the Royal source said.
Two apartments in Kensington Palace served as Princess Diana’s home during much of Prince William’s childhood.
The Royal couple has returned from their tour of Canada and Los Angeles and has moved into their apartment at Kensington Palace, reports People. Their initial residence is a two-bedroom, one-bathroom apartment that will serve as a place to land when they are in London.
However, since Prince William is currently stationed in Wales for his service in the Royal Air Force, which is also where Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge will spend a lot of her time, the two-bedroom apartment in the palace is likely a temporary residence, says an insider. The couple will likely choose a bigger space within the palace once they are permanently in London (and we would presume starting a family).
Kensington Palace is located in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea and has housed Royal family members since the 1600s. In addition to the newlyweds Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, the palace also houses the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester (Prince Richard and wife Birgitte), the Duke and Duchess of Kent (Prince Edward and wife Katharine) and Prince and Princess Michael of Kent (Prince Michael and wife Baroness Marie von Reibnitz).
In 1981, Prince Charles and Diana, Princess of Wales made their home there and it remained Diana's residence until her death in 1997, making it the chief residence where Prince William and Prince Harry were raised.
